DVD, DVD-R, and DVD+R Discs

The DVDs available on AMVC are either DVD (professional) format or DVD-R and DVD+R (homemade) formats. You can tell which producer is providing which format by looking at the text in the purchase options for the video...like this:

All Region DVD for $39.95
Region 1 DVD-R for $44.95
Region 1 DVD+R for $44.95

If it just says DVD then it's a professionally mastered DVD and all machines can play that product. If the text has DVD-R or DVD+R then you have to know a little about the machine you're going to play it on. Not all DVD Players can play all three formats of DVD's. Generally, use these guidelines:

• All DVD players play professional DVD discs.
• Generally, players made in 2003 play DVD+R discs.
• Generally, players made before 2003 play DVD-R discs.

If you buy a DVD-R or DVD+R and it does not work in your machine then you can send it back and we will send you the other format at no additional charge.

Compatibility Web Sites

There are a number of web sites that have charts that should tell you what DVD format your machine supports. Check all of the charts to make sure you get all the info that is available on your machine.

If you're still in doubt those use those guidelines listed above.

Region Coding

There's one more thing to consider when buying any format DVD video. Hollywood's effort to stop DVD piracy led to the world being divided into regions. A DVD made for one region will not play in a DVD player bought in a different region.

Again, look at the text in the purchase options for the video.

All Region DVD for $39.95
Region 1 DVD-R for $44.95
Region 1 DVD+R for $44.95

If it says ''REGION 1'' then that product is formatted to only play on American and Canadian DVD players. If the button says ''ALL REGION'' then it is formatted to play in DVD players world-wide.

Some DVD players can play DVDs from any region, but these are not common and you probably do not have one of these.

As stated before, AMVC stands by it's products and if any DVD/DVD-R/DVD+R disc will not play in your machine then we will replace it when you return the disc to us.
